Balls and strikes: Top pitchers, player of the year among baseball's 105 players to watch
Dallastown, Susquehannock, Bermudian Springs and Delone Catholic are the defending champs from YAIAA Division I, II, III and IV, respectively.
They all bring back enough firepower to stay in their division hunts, but there are other loaded teams that will stand in their way.
In Division III, Bermudian Springs is going to be tough to hit against. The Eagles bring back junior Nate Keller and senior Gabe Kline, who were named the division's co-pitchers of the year. Kline had a 1.12 ERA and 4-0 record last year while Keller struck out 57 and had a 2.13 ERA in 42.2 innings of work. They also return first-team all-star Liam Cook at catcher to keep the battery complete.
In Division I, Dallastown will be led by catcher Cade Flinchbaugh, who was named an honorable mention all-star as a sophomore. But it is Red Lion, which finished tied with Central York for second in the division last year, that brings the heavy hitters back this year.
Senior pitcher and first baseman AJ Lipscomb is the division's reigning player of the year. He hit .478 with nine doubles and two triples and carried a 2.47 ERA with 45 strikeouts against 13 walks. He is joined by first-team infielder Connor Lawrence and honorable mention catcher Lane Leuer.
South Western brings back a pair of first-team all-stars in outfielder Landin Eyster and shortstop Cade Baumgardner along with West Virginia pitching commit Carlos Caraballo. Northeastern brings back a pair of all-stars from a District 3 playoff team that now has former state champion coach Don Kauffman back at the helm.
Susquehannock, which also claimed its second straight league tournament title, will be led by senior Jarryn Andrews, an honorable mention all-star who plays outfield, middle infield and pitches. New Oxford and Spring Grove return at least two first-teamers to try to close the gap from their tie for second to division title.
Delone Catholic, which took the division title by one game over Hanover, returns first-teamers Brady Dettinburn and Aidan Wittmer, and honorable mention all-star Denver Ostrum to provide senior leadership.
