Roundup: Susquehannock wins Eastern York Duals

The Susquehannock wrestling team went 3-0 to win the Eastern York Duals on Saturday.

The Warriors pulled out victories against Halifax (42-31) and York County Tech (78-6) before dispatching the host Golden Knights, 51-24. Six Warriors each went 3-0: Michael Younkin (113 pounds), Xander Holloway (126), Dakota Hess (132), Erik Younkin (138/145), Jack Allred (195) and Andrew Senft (285).

The Golden Knights finished 2-1 with wins against York County Tech (60-9) and Halifax (51-27). Three Knights went 3-0: Troy Staats (152/160), Dakota Mackley (170) and Jahshim Snyder (182).

The Spartans finished 0-3, adding a 63-18 loss to Halifax to the other losses. Tech's 106-pounder Kameron Bly still pulled out a 3-0 day.

New Oxford tournament: Three YAIAA grapplers won gold medals at the New Oxford tournament, while two others came up with silver medals.

Biglerville’s Nate Newberry won the 152-pound title after defeating Pottstown’s Mason Pennypacker, 9-1, in the final. To reach the final, Newberry downed Delone Catholic’s Brian Shermeyer, 3-1.

Littlestown's Matt Guilday won the 220-pound title. He earned a fall, received a medical forfeit and then defeated New Oxford’s Dalton Smith, 4-0, in the semifinals to advance to the final. There, he won by default in 2:56 against Blue Mountain’s Erech Noecker.

Northeastern's Blaine Yinger won the 285-pound title. He recorded a pair of first-period falls and also beat a Colonial in the semifinals, dispatching Brock Hartman 4-1. In the final, Yinger pinned Line Mountain’s Garrett Kieffer in 4:40 to receive the gold.

Hanover’s Caleb Garland was runner-up at 126 pounds, and Littlestown’s Connor Geiman took silver at 170 pounds.

Milton Hershey won the team championship with 175.5 points. Biglerville posted the highest YAIAA finish with 65 points, good for sixth place.

Of note, New Oxford 152-pounder Nolan Poust recorded his 100th career victory during the two-day event that drew 22 teams from across Pennsylvania.

South Western 49, Reading 25: Needing a victory and some help to qualify for the District 3 team tournament, the Mustangs did their part. South Western won seven consecutive matches from 113 to 152 to dispatch Reading. The majority of the damage was done when Chase Mowery (120), Derek Wilson (126), Gavin Smith (132) and Owen Wherley (145) recorded consecutive falls.

Bermudian Springs 36, Big Spring 35: Logan Luckenbaugh’s fall at 220 and Brady Linebaugh’s 3-0 decision at 285 led the Eagles to a come-from-behind victory against the Bulldogs in their second match of the day.

After losing to rival Boiling Springs earlier in the day on the road, the Eagles had to have a short memory heading into their bout at home.

Landon West got the hosts started with a fall in 1:20 at 113 pounds. After a Bulldog tech fall at 120, Austin Clabaugh pushed the lead to 12-5 with a fall in 47 seconds.

Two major decisions later, the Eagles trailed 13-12 before Darren Beal and Ashton West recorded back-to-back victories. Beall’s was a fall and West earned a 3-2 win.

After Britain Shields posted a major decision at 160 for the Bulldogs, Noah Fleshman pushed the Eagles lead to 27-17. That lead quickly evaporated as the Bulldogs received consecutive falls from Chance Rayhart (182) and Blake Barrick (195) to take a 29-27 lead with the Eagles still with a forfeit to give at 106.

Needing bonus points from at least one of Bermudian's last two wrestlers, Luckenbaugh answered with a 30-second fall to set up Linebaugh with an easy win-and-the-team-wins scenario.
