Roundup: Rohrbaugh wraps up title at 113

Here are Tuesday's YAIAA wrestling results. Log back on often for updates.

Mount Mat Madness Invitational: Spring Grove’s Dalton Rohrbaugh won the 113-pound weight class at the 2015 Mount Mat Madness tournament at Mount Saint Joseph in Maryland.

Rohrbaugh — the No. 2 seed — defeated the top-seed from Queen of Peace, Enrique Sanchez, by tech fall, 18-2 in 4:31. Rohrbaugh used a 10-point second period on the strength of a takedown and eight near-fall points to win the title.

Teammate Clay Baker finished second at 106 pounds after being pinned in 4:00 by No. 3 seed P.J. Truntich of Spalding. The top-seeded Baker led 5-4 before being reversed with 18 seconds left in the period which led to the fall at the buzzer.

Hanover’s Caleb Garland was the only other local to reach the final, losing 4-2 to Middletown’s Danny Bertoni in the final. The top-seeded Bertoni recorded two takedowns, too much for the No. 2-seeded Garland to overcome.

Governor Mifflin Tournament: Top seeds Brandon Rodriguez, Bryce Shields and Austin McNamee joined eight other YAIAA grapplers in the semifinals at the Governor Mifflin holiday tournament.

The No. 1 seed at 113 pounds, Dover’s Rodriguez had the easiest path to semis with a first-round bye followed up with a fall in the quarters. Kennard-Dale’s McNamee, the top seed at 170, worked a pair of falls while Shields, Dallastown’s top seed at 195 pounds, worked his way into the semis with a fall and tech fall.

Also joining the trio in the semifinals are Kennard-Dale’s Dameon Davis (106), Justin Miller (113) and Mike Bracey (126); Dover’s Matthew Rodriguez (106) and Austin Richcreek (220); Dallastown’s Drake Pew (160) and Cameron Green (182); and Northeastern’s Blaine Yinger (285). Pew had the most impressive road, recording a pair of falls in a combined 42 seconds.

Chambersburg Trojan Wars: Gettysburg’s Chase Mueller fell 5-1 to Washington, West Virginia’s Cameron Pine in the 145-pound final at the Trojan Wars, the highest placing of any local in the field.

Mueller started the day with a 4-0 win over Chambersburg’s Drake Brenize before reaching the final. Teammate Daniel Ziegler finished in fourth place at 132 pounds.

York Suburban’s Colin Shelton started the day in the semifinals at 120 pounds before being pinned in 1:20 by Lewisburg’s Brian Friery. After a 6-4 overtime win over Donegal's Austin Burkholder, Shelton fell to Lower Dauphin’s Tyler Walters, 13-6, in the third-place match.

Fairfield had a pair of eighth place finishers in 132-pounder Cody Small and 152-pounder Colton Shriner.

Conestoga Valley Classic: Seven YAIAA grapplers advanced to Wednesday’s semifinals at the Conestoga Valley Holiday Classic, and at least one of them will be guaranteed a spot in the finals.

At 285 pounds, New Oxford’s Brock Hartman will face off against Red Lion’s Jared Schell in one semifinal. Schell defeated another YAIAA athlete, Central York freshman Michael Wolfgram, 9-8 in the quarterfinals.

The YAIAA also has a pair of semifinalists at 120, just on opposite sides of the bracket in top-seeded Zurich Storm of New Oxford and Red Lion’s Riley Seredytch.

Central York’s Dylan Chatterton (138) and Isaiah Dickson (182) will also appear in the semifinals as will New Oxford's Nolan Poust (152). Poust defeated Red Lion's Dom Guerreri in the quarterfinals.
