Central York's Peters-Washington ends postseason tennis run

Central York's Yvonne Peters-Washington dropped out of the PIAA singles tournament during the first round of play Friday at Hershey Racquet Club.

Peters-Washington faced McDowell's Lauren Fadden in the opening round and dropped the first set 6-2. Things got worse for the Panthers' only participant as she dropped the next set, 6-1, and ended her hopes of a state title.

Peters-Washington won the YAIAA Class AAA singles title and was the runner-up in the District 3 tournament.

Fadden advanced to the second round where she fell to the top seed Mihaela Codreanu in two sets, 6-2, 6-0.

The tournament gets back underway -- without any YAIAA contenders -- at 9 a.m. Saturday morning back at Hershey Racquet Club.
