Central York's Gus Minkin in lead at District 3 golf after first day


Central York's Gus Minkin shot a first-round, 2-under par 70 to hold a one-shot lead over three other golfers after the first day at the District 3 golf tournament held at Briarwood East and West.

Minkin will be joined in today's Class AAA final pairing at 11:20 a.m. with Ephrata's Matt Kreider, Chambersburg's Ian Patterson and Dallastown's Blake Sebring after each golfer shot a 71 on the East course.

Twelve YAIAA golfers made the cut in AAA, joining Sebring and Minkin are Eastern York's Andrew Davis (72), Zach Dixon (75), Kevin Crumbling (76), New Oxford's Justin Gruver (73), Central York's Joe Parrini (78), Matt Bricker (79), Connor Bacha (79), Dover's Logan Snyder (79), Dallastown's Evan Greenplate (77) and Spring Grove's Eli Brooks (79).

In Class AA, York Catholic's Andrew Forjan is six strokes off the pace after a first-round 77. Wyomissing's Nate Menon is the first-round leader with a 71, three strokes ahead of Tulpehocken's Chase Miller and Berks Catholic's Oliver Hanley. Forjan's teammate Josh Stuart (83) also made the cut.

On the girls' side, Central York's Julianne Lee is one stroke off the pace set by Morgan Frazier after one round in the Class AAA field at Briarwood West. Lee shot a 3-over 75 while Frazier's 74 was good for the first-round lead. Three other YAIAA golfers will join Lee in today's second round, Eastern York's Alexandra Lowder (84), Susquehannock's Kendel Abrams (85) and New Oxford's Victoria Downey (85).

Big Springs' Isabelle Macioce recorded a hole-in-one, acing the par-3, 115-yard No. 14 hole. Her ace allowed her to make the cut as she finished the first round with a 90.

The lone YAIAA girls' golfer in Class AA to qualify for the second round was Fairfield's Allison Howe, who shot a 93 and is 20 strokes behind Lancaster Mennonite's Grace Stillman.
