YAIAA sends 14 teams to District 3 baseball, softball tournaments

The YAIAA is sending a total of 14 teams to the District 3 baseball and softball tournaments, which start Monday and Tuesday. Here is a team-by-team look at each school's first-round matchup.

Baseball

All games are Monday at 4:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

Class AAAA

(13) DALLASTOWN AT (4) PENN MANOR >> Dallastown opens its District 3 tournament at Lancaster-Lebanon League entrant Penn Manor. The Wildcats and Comets met March 27, when Penn Manor came away with a 5-2 win. Dallastown enters the District 3 tournament for the first time since 2013, while the Comets are back after entering as the No. 13 seed last year.

Class AAA

(13) BISHOP MCDEVITT AT (4) SPRING GROVE >> Spring Grove drops to Class AAA after a run of success in the AAAA field. The Rockets will host Mid-Penn entrant Bishop McDevitt. Last year, the AAA tournament was flipped upside down early as only one higher seed, No. 8 Northeastern, advanced. Bishop McDevitt was on the right side of one of those upsets last year as a 13-seed, downing Susquehannock, 3-0 in the first round.

(14) DANIEL BOONE AT (3) WEST YORK >> After two consecutive PIAA titles, West York's postseason ended early last season when the Bulldogs were knocked off by No. 16 seed Middletown. This year, West York begins the postseason as a No. 3 seed and will take on the No. 14 Blazers. Daniel Boone played three games against YAIAA competition this year, losing to Northeastern and Red Lion while earning a victory against West York, which will look to avenge that late-season loss on Monday.

Class AA

(5) YORK CATHOLIC AT (4) DELONE CATHOLIC >> YAIAA Division IV foes Delone Catholic and York Catholic will face off at 4:30 p.m. Thursday for the third time this season. The teams split the first two meetings this year. The Fighting Irish won, 13-5, on April 1, and the Squires won, 11-1, in five innings on April 24.

Softball

All games are at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday unless otherwise noted.

This year, the Blazers enter as one of the favorites. Dallastown will look for the upset Tuesday.

(10) CHAMBERSBURG AT (7) CENTRAL YORK >> Both teams made it to last year's quarterfinals. The Panthers will look to keep up the momentum from their YAIAA Division I crown and YAIAA tournament championship when they host Chambersburg on Tuesday afternoon.

(15) SUSQUEHANNOCK AT (2) TWIN VALLEY >> Susquehannock will make the long trip to Twin Valley, the 2013 Class AAA runner-up, in search of a victory to reach the quarterfinal round for the second consecutive year. Last year, the Warriors beat Hamburg in the first round. The game is at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

(10) BIG SPRING AT (7) LITTLESTOWN >> Littlestown moves up from Class AA to AAA and will host a tournament regular. Both teams won their opening-round game last season.

Class AA

(9) FAIRFIELD AT (8) UPPER DAUPHIN >> The Green Knights reached the district tournament for the first time in 2008 as a Class A team. The team that eliminated them? Upper Dauphin. The Green Knights will travel to Upper Dauphin for a chance to avenge a loss seven seasons ago.
