Saturday's softball roundup: South Western claims third place at tournament


Here are Saturday's York/Adams softball results. Check back often for updates.

BIG SPRING INVITATIONAL >> South Western's softball team claimed third place in the Big Spring Invitational, topping Spring Grove in the third-place game, 20-6, in four innings. The win capped a 2-1 showing for the Mustangs in the tournament.

South Western opened the invitational with a 7-6 win over Greencastle-Antrim in six innings, a game which ended early because of time constraints. Shippensburg then tagged South Western for an 11-1 loss.

Katie Willinghan had a big first game against the Blue Devils as she went 4-for-4 from the plate with two RBIs. Allie Fleming and Allie Zombro each had two hits. In the second game, Jordan Chell had two hits for the Mustangs.

In the third-place game, South Western's Hannah Glover went 4-for-5 with six RBIs.

New Oxford lost all three of its games. In Game 1, the Colonials fell to host Big Spring, 16-2. New Oxford also lost to Chambersburg, 12-1, and Muhlenberg, 4-2. Kendra Becker had two triples on the day for the Colonials.

In the championship game, Big Spring defeated Shippensburg.

CENTRAL WINS PANTHER CLASSIC >> Central York defeated Wilson, 11-0, in the championship game to win the tournament it hosted. The Panthers also routed Bermudian Springs, 18-3, in an opening game.

Kelsey Wisner led Central York with five hits, three RBIs and two triples in the two games. The Panthers had 14 hits and 15 RBIs in their first game, while four different players had multi-hit games. Briannah Dobson had two hits and three RBIs in the championship game.

Central pitcher Kayla Resh had six strikeouts and zero walks in the championship game for Central York while Rachel Butler had five strikeouts in the first game.

Overall the Panthers played a combined eight innings.
