Central York survived the quarterfinal round of the District 3 Class 3A boys' lacrosse tournament with a 10-9 win over Hempfield on Thursday night.

The game was played at Central York.

Central York led 8-3 at halftime and 9-4 midway through the third quarter, but Hempfield made things interesting. The Black Knights received consecutive goals from Cameron Aksu to start the fourth quarter, slicing the deficit to 9-7 with 7:58 to go.

The two teams then traded goals -- Alex Kilgour put one home for Central before Hempfield answered -- to make the score 10-8 with 2:55 remaining. Hempfield then got another goal, this one from Grayson Dague, to cut the Panthers' lead to 10-9 with 1:08 left.

Central then won possession but turned it over. A late Hempfield shot was stopped, however, and the Panthers hung on to advance.

Kilgour scored four goals for the Panthers, as did TJ Ross. Ryan Fahs had three assists for Central York while Ryan Kilgour added two.
The Panthers, seeded No. 3, will now take on No. 2 Manheim Township in the District 3 semifinals on Tuesday. Site and time is yet to be determined.

Manheim Township beat Warwick 10-5 on Thursday in their respective quarterfinals game.

Eastern York continues run

Two days after pulling an upset of No. 5 Susquehannock, Eastern York's boys' lacrosse team took down No. 4 Trinity, 12-10, in the District 3 Class 2A quarterfinals on Thursday night.

The victory punched the Golden Knights ticket into the state tournament.

Eastern York trailed 7-6 at the half then rallied to take a 9-8 lead after three before holding off the Shamrocks down the stretch.

The Golden Knights will meet top-seed Palmyra, a 14-3 winner over Cocalico in Tuesday's semifinal. Site and time for that contest is to be determined.

York Suburban and York Catholic fall to consolation

York Suburban and York Catholic boys' lacrosse teams dropped their quarterfinal matches Thursday, but each still have an opportunity to qualify for the state tournament in Class 2A.

York Suburban, the tournament's No. 11 seed got to the quarterfinals with a 4-3 upset of Lancaster Country Day while the Fighting Irish knocked off fellow YAIAA competitor South Western 18-13.

The tables turned on each team on Thursday as York Suburban fell to No. 3 Hershey, 12-4 while York Catholic fell to No. 10 seed Lower Dauphin, 13-11. Hershey and Lower Dauphin will meet in a semifinal on Tuesday.

The top five in Class 2A earn state playoff bids and one of either the Trojans or Fighting Irish will play for that right as the two teams will face each other in a do-or-die consolation match Tuesday. The winner will play for fifth place against the winner of Cocalico and Trinity while the loser will see their season end.

Spring Grove and Dallastown boys' volleyball advance

The first round of the District 3 boys' volleyball tournament got underway Thursday night.

Dallastown punched its ticket to the Class 3A quarterfinals with a 3-1, 25-23, 25-20, 23-25, 25-19 win over Governor Mifflin.

Spring Grove advanced to the Class 2A quarterfinals with a 3-2, 13-25, 19-25, 25-21, 25-12, 15-10 comeback victory over West York. The Rockets will meet No. 2 seed and four-time defending PIAA champion Northeastern on Monday.

Dallastown was led by Nathan Darr's 21 kills while Peyton Ranck racked up 48 assists and five aces. The Wildcats will meet Lower Dauphin in Monday's quarterfinal at Central York. The Falcons knocked off Wilson, 3-2, on Thursday.
