Delone advances to District 3 tennis semis

Alyssa and Ellie Neudecker each won their singles matches easily, and Delone Catholic's first doubles team also won to help the Squirettes advance to the District 3 Class 2A team tennis tournament semifinals Monday at Hershey Racquet Club.

No. 3 seed Delone beat No. 6 Kutztown, 3-2.

Bridget Kilkelly and Maria Waminal battled to a 7-5 win in their first set against Hannah Sanders and Kianna Haring, then posted a 6-3 win in the second set to seal the team point.

Alyssa Neudecker won, 6-1, 6-2, at first singles, and Ellie Neudecker dropped just one game at No. 2 singles.

Emily Ritter dropped a tough decision to Kutztown's Jillian Siefert, 5-7, 6-2, 10-7. And Julie Thackston and Megan Jones fell at No. 2 doubles, 6-2, 6-3.

The Squirettes advance to Wednesday's semifinal against Lancaster Catholic, which beat Lancaster Country Day, 4-1, in the quarterfinals. The semifinals continue at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday at Hershey Racquet Club. The championship match is Thursday.
