Saturday's girls' soccer roundup: York Suburban girls win title

YORK SUBURBAN TOURNAMENT

SUBURBAN WINS TOURNAMENT >> After advancing against Lancaster Catholic, 6-5, in penalty kicks in the opener, the Trojans downed York Catholic, 2-1, to win the championship.

In the title game, Abigail Eisenhart scored both goals for Suburban and Stephanie Bowman assisted on the winner. Goalie Morgan Taylor made five saves for the Trojans.

York Catholic's lone goal came from Lizzie Johnson.

In the opening game for Suburban, the Trojans and Crusaders played to a scoreless tie through regulation and overtime. York Suburban's Bowman scored the winner in penalty kicks and Taylor provided a key save to allow the Trojans to advance.

The Warriors' Ashley Stone made seven saves to keep the game competitive.

HERSHEY TOURNAMENT >> Central York fell to Manheim Township, 4-1, in the opening game of the Hershey tournament on Saturday, but the Panthers regrouped to beat Red Lion, 5-0, in the consolation round.

In the opener, Lynsey Nicholas put the Panthers ahead just 15 seconds into the game with Bre Sgrignoli picking up the assist. That lead was short-lived as the Blue Streaks tied the game just 15 seconds later and took the lead for good with 25:39 to play in the opening half. Manheim Township outshot Central 21-2.

The Panthers again started fast in the consolation match, scoring 1:51 into the game when Lynnae Swanson found Kennedy Little. Nicholas doubled that lead at 29:39 of the first half and scored again in the second half to set the final margin of victory.
