York Suburban bounced by Berks Catholic

Berks Catholic outscored York Suburban by five points in the fourth quarter, pulling out the 34-24 win in a District 3 Class AAA quarterfinal matchup at Garden Spot on Saturday.

The Saints will advance to Wednesday’s semifinal against Greencastle-Antrim at Giant Center while the Trojans will face ELCO in Tuesday’s consolation at Dallastown.

A victory for the Trojans in that contest would guarantee them a berth in the PIAA tournament as the top seven teams from District 3 qualify.

The game started out slow for both teams as the score was tied 4-4 after one quarter before the Saints took an 11-7 lead into the break.

The No. 8 seed, York Suburban was led by Olivia Gettle’s eight points while Ali Reinecker added seven points.

The top-seeded Saints received a game-high 12 points from Abby Gaffney.
