Comly honored by all-state basketball selection

Despite Delone Catholic missing out on the state playoffs for the first time since the 2007-08 season, Squirrettes star Maddie Comly still garnered enough attention from across Pennsylvania to be named first-team all-state.

The Pennsylvania Sports Writers All-State Girls' Basketball teams were announced on Thursday and Comly was named to the first team in Class AA.

"I was absolutely shocked," Comly said of finding out about the honor. "What a great honor it is that they still considered me even though my team didn't make the tournament."

Comly, who is headed to play at Farleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, N.J. next fall, averaged a YAIAA-leading 22.7 points per game as a senior and scored 25 team in the Squirrettes' season-ending loss to Trinity in the District 3 playoffs.

Her four-year high school career included three district championship game appearances, many all-YAIAA awards and a second-team all-state honor last season.

"Among all of my high school accolades this has to be top five," Comly said. "I thought second team last year was awesome but first team tops that."
