York Catholic duo named all-state in football

York Catholic's football team ended several championship droughts for the program this season, and the team's top two offensive threats earned all-state recognition Tuesday.

York Catholic senior quarterback Dan Yokemick and senior running back Jakkar Kinard were named to the Pa. Football Writers All-State Class 2A team.

The Irish (10-2) won the program's first league division title since 1992 and its first District 3 title since 1982, running through Newport to pick up the Class 2A title to reach the state playoffs.

Kinard and Yokemick were the only YAIAA players named to the all-state team in the six classifications.

"It really speaks highly of them," York Catholic coach Eric Depew said. "When you put in the hard work, good things happen. It's a great accomplishment for our program and our school."

Kinard rushed for 2,063 yards, picking up 7.3 yards per carry. He scored 23 touchdowns and was held under 90 yards rushing only once all season.

Yokemick completed 80-of-128 passes (63 percent completion rating) for 1,358 yards, but he was almost equally as dangerous with his feet. He rushed for 1,107 yards and had three 100-yard games. He managed to run for a season-high 298 yards in the District 3 title game.

Yokemick also played safety, picking off four passes, while Kinard played cornerback.

"I mean, the quarterback and running back are two of the top positions, but their leadership and work ethic is what set them apart," Depew said. "They really cared for their teammates first."

Note: Northern senior Aidan Alves was named to the all-state team as a specialist in Class 4A.
