If there was a story at the start of the game, if there was one running back worth mentioning, it was Spring Grove's Ryan Daugherty.

He plowed through Central York's defense Friday night, running behind an offensive front Central York coach Josh Oswalt would categorize as "a really good set of linemen."

But in the end, the start, that flash of dominance from Spring Grove, didn't matter.

Not after Central York's Tim Sturgis' 74-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Not after Cade Pribula's precision attack through the air picked apart the Spring Grove defensive backfield.

And not after running back Noreaga Goff's three scores helped lead Central York to a 35-21 come-from-behind victory.

Goff became the big story.

"We just couldn't get it together in the first half," Goff said.

Goff finished with 28 carries for 126 yards, with all but 36 of those yards coming in the second half. His third score of the game, set up by a 24-yard reception by Sturgis, sealed the win in what could be an elimination game in the divisional title chase for two teams that entered Week 7 tied for second place in the YAIAA Division I standings.

"This was a big game here … you lose this and you put yourself in a really bad situation in the playoff picture, and maybe that got to them," Oswalt said about his young roster.

Daugherty rushed for a game-high 149 yards on 27 carries.

"They imposed their will on us there in that first drive," Oswalt said. "They just shoved it down our throats."

But Daugherty did the majority of his damage in the first half (21 carries, 115 yards). Central adjusted, holding him to 34 second-half yards and stopped making what Oswalt termed "Day 1" mistakes.

Central (5-2, 3-1) had an answer for Spring Grove (4-3, 2-2) through the final three quarters after being shut out in the first quarter. And no play figured bigger in swinging momentum back in Central's favor than Sturgis' kickoff return.

"It was the right play at the right time," Goff noted.

A 14-point second quarter and a 14-point third quarter put Central in front for good.

"There's been a lot of times this year, teams have gotten up on us," Goff said.

"But we overcame that and that's all that matters to me."
