Dallastown deadens New Oxford's fast start with 43 unanswered points

Despite contrasting records, New Oxford showed undefeated Dallastown that it wasn't going to be intimidated when the two teams took the field Friday night.

In fact, the Colonials made a resounding statement by scoring a touchdown on the fourth play of the game, and recovered a Wildcats fumble on the ensuing drive.

However, just as it has all season, Dallastown's defense clamped down and New Oxford wouldn't score again until the fourth quarter, when the game was already in mercy rule.

Meanwhile, behind the precise passing of Cade Gold, the Wildcats put up 43 consecutive points and remained unbeaten after a 43-13 Division I victory.

Dallastown sits alone atop the division with a 5-0 league record and 8-0 overall mark and can clinch a tie for the division title with a win at Central York next week.

Gold completed 18-of-24 passes from 294 yards and three touchdowns, two to receiver Jawaun McMillian, who finished with six catches for 127 yards.

"It was a matter of the whole team doing their jobs as a team and getting it done," said McMillian following the Wildcats' eighth win of the season.

On Dallastown's second possession of the contest, McMillian took a Gold pass 52 yards for a first down. The two connected on the very next play from 31 yards out, tying the score.

"All it takes is one (catch) and it gets me rolling," McMillian said.

"I've been telling Jawaun he's a much better receiver and he's starting to figure that out," Wildcats coach Kevin Myers said. "Obviously, we know about Jake Jansen (five catches, 68 yards) and deservedly so. We've got a couple of other guys out there that can make plays as well. Cade has been doing a good job of looking and finding the open guy."

Things went south for the Colonials after that tying touchdown, particularly during a disastrous three-minute span of the second quarter.

A 1-yard punt gave the Wildcats a first down at the New Oxford 13 and two plays later, McMillian hauled in a 10-yard scoring strike.

Back to punt after a three-and-out on the next possession, the snap sailed over the punter's head for a safety. Edgar Centeno returned the free kick that followed 55 yards to the Colonials' 2-yard line and Jack Marks bowled in moments later, capping a one-play drive and suddenly it was 22-7.

The Wildcats scored on the first play of the second half when Gold hit Anthony Garcia with a 47-yard touchdown pass and the rout was on.

Three plays following the opening kickoff Shane Rolle hauled in a 66-yard catch and run from New Oxford (0-5, 1-7) starting quarterback Corban Czap. Ferrious Ashford scored from 2 yards out on the next play for the early 7-0 lead.

"We got caught flat footed," Myers said. "You can't look at their record. They played some teams very tough. You can't get upset four plays into it, the game is not over. It's a long haul, the kids rebounded and did their thing."
