District field hockey: Gettysburg makes states in 2OT

Gettysburg needed extra time, but it was time well spent. The Warriors managed to a pull out a 1-0 victory in double overtime against Northern York in a District 3 Class 2A field hockey tournament consolation game Wednesday at Lower Dauphin Middle School.

The victory in double overtime allowed Gettysburg to advance to the third-place game of the tournament, but more importantly it punched the Warriors' ticket to the state tournament.

Elena Montenegro converted a penalty stroke to secure the win.

The Warriors (17-3-1) advance to play Lampeter-Strasburg (13-7) in the fifth-place game at 3 p.m. Saturday at Lower Dauphin Middle School.

Lampeter-Strasburg 3, New Oxford 2: In another Class 2A consolation game, Lampeter-Strasburg scored off a corner just before time expired to eliminate the Colonials (15-4) from postseason play. New Oxford's Kaelyn Long scored with under 10 minutes to play to tie the game, 2-2.

Newport 2, Bermudian Springs 1: In a Class 1A consolation game, Newport (16-5) scored the game-winner with under two minutes to play to eliminate the Eagles (15-6) from the postseason. Newport will need to win its fifth-place game against Tulpehocken Saturday to reach the state tournament.
