GameTimePA YAIAA boys' volleyball All-Stars 2017

Athlete of the Year

Carter Luckenbaugh, Central York, sr.

Central York’s unquestioned leader: Luckenbaugh allowed Central to avoid being one-dimensional. Luckenbaugh handcuffed opponents by moving the ball around to all of Central’s offensive weapons. He finished with 1,314 assists, averaging 10 assists per set. He leaves the program after his team secured league, district and state championships in his final season. A four-sport athlete, Luckenbaugh is headed to Bloomsburg University to play soccer.

FIRST-TEAM ALL-STARS

Cole Johnson, Central York, jr.

For stretches he could dominate matches like no other player in the YAIAA and arguably the state. He recorded a breakout season, coming off a broken growth plate in his leg from the year before. The bigger the game, the better Johnson played. He recorded 28 kills in the YAIAA tournament final, a 3-2 Central win. He then uncorked 22 kills, 11 digs and five aces in the state title match. He finished with 505 kills, averaging 3.8 per set, and 142 aces. Penn State, UCLA, USC and Loyola (Chicago) have all shown interest in the 6-foot-7 rising senior.

Cole Brillhart, Northeastern, jr.

The Bobcats’ biggest offensive force down the stretch, Brillhart enjoyed a seamless transition in his first season at Northeastern. He helped the Bobcats secure District 3 and PIAA Class 2A titles. Brillhart helped bring home the state medal, crushing four of his 29 kills in the final game of a tense 3-2 PIAA semifinal victory against Manheim Central. He added 30 kills in the state title game. He finished with 533 kills, 72 blocks and 52 aces this season.

Dakoda Hoffman, Northeastern, sr.

One of the few holdovers from Northeastern’s state championship club from last season, Hoffman smashed home the state-title clinching kill for the Bobcats. One of the senior leaders for the Bobcats, Hoffman is a repeat selection to the first team. He finished with 214 kills, 62 blocks and 22 aces in his final high school season. He will play at Arcadia next season.

Jack Schultz, York Suburban, sr.

The Trojans’ big man was the biggest offensive weapon for Suburban during another standout season. One of only two players this year to return to GameTime’s first-team, Schultz recorded 316 kills, 76 blocks and 116 digs. He will enroll at North Carolina State.

Nathan Darr, Dallastown, sr.

Dallastown showed some of the most dramatic improvement of any YAIAA club during the season, moving into the state’s top-10 rankings by year’s end. In a loaded field, Darr helped the Wildcats reach the final at the Koller Classic. Darr recorded 352 kills, 310 digs, 66 blocks and 55 aces. He will enroll at Penn State University.

Coach of the Year

Todd Goodling, Central York

Central York went undefeated against YAIAA competition, and it won every hardware game to take home the YAIAA tournament, District 3 and PIAA championships. Goodling, a longtime assistant coach at Central, earned his first state title as a head coach, finishing with a 21-0 match record.
