The Northeastern boys' volleyball team pulled off a big season-opening win Friday night, defeating the state's top-ranked team, 3-0.

The four-time defending PIAA Class 2A champion Bobcats found themselves ranked No. 6 in the preseason by the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association.

But on Friday night, the Bobcats made their case for a higher ranking by knocking off top-seeded Beaver County Christian School, 25- 18, 25-20, 25-19.

Cole Brillhart led the Bobcats' offense with 13 kills, and Dakoda Hoffman added 10. Jacob Cheuvront stepped into the setting role to hand out 38 assists.

The win could push Northeastern up the rankings.

The Bobcats didn't seem to skip a beat in their 2017 season debut, despite losing all-state honoree Reese Devilbiss to graduation. He's now playing at Ohio State as a freshman.
