Central York boys' volleyball finishes second at Fox Chapel


CENTRAL FINISHES SECOND AT FOX CHAPEL >> The Central York boys' volleyball team finished in second place to the host team Fox Chapel at the Fox Chapel Classic on Saturday in Pittsburgh. Fox Chapel entered the tournament as the No. 1-ranked Class AAA team in the state.

In the opening pool round of tournament play, the Panthers went undefeated by sweeping both Central Catholic and Penn-Trafford. The second pool round went the same for Central, as it beat Saegertown and Fox Chapel on point differential and swept Bethel Park, 2-0, giving them the No. 1 seed entering the playoffs.

Central opened the playoff round by defeating Plum and downing Bethel Park a second time.

In the championship game with the score tied at 28, the Panthers forced an FC error and were awarded point 29 on the scoreboard. However, after a lengthy discussion between the officials, the point was wiped off the board and awarded to the Foxes.

On the next rally, the Fox Chapel won the tournament by besting Central 30-28 in the single-set competition. The Panthers finished the day with a 7-1 record.
