Wednesday's boys' tennis roundup: South Western nips Dallastown, clinches share of Division I title

South Western's Gavin Kenny and Ben Sentz battled to a three-set win in their No. 1 doubles match to clinch a 4-3 victory against Dallatown on Wednesday, securing at least a share of the YAIAA Division I title for the Mustangs.

South Western took a 3-2 lead after singles play behind wins from Sentz, Ben Harrison and Shane O'Reilly, who outdueled David Trimmer in a third-set tiebreaker to seal the third team point.

Kenny and Sentz dropped the first set to John Schmitt and Sachin Venkatesh, 4-6, before they rebounded in the second set for a 6-4 win. Fittingly, the third set went to a tiebreaker, where Sentz and Kenny scored a 7-3 and the decisive point in the match.

Dallastown's Tyler Lilie and Hunter Jones won the No. 2 doubles match in straight sets to keep the Wildcats' hopes alive. Schmitt and Jones added singles victories.

In all, the match featured four tiebreakers.

South Western (7-0) has a chance to win the division title outright Friday when it faces Central York (6-1), which would earn a share of the title with a win. In that case, Dallastown (6-1) could force a three-way championship if it beats Spring Grove on Friday.
