Roundup: Krout leads Hanover to tourney title


Hanover's Kyle Krout scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Nighthawks to a 50-47 victory against Kennard-Dale in the championship of Tulpehocken's holiday tournament on Tuesday.

Hunter Martz chipped in with 12 for Hanover, which built a big enough margin with an 18-11 first quarter to hold off the Rams' late push.

Kennard-Dale's Kyle Wooldridge dropped in 22, while Adam Freese had 16.

McCaskey Christmas tournament

William Penn 65, West York 53: The Bearcats' defense locked down the Bulldogs in the fourth quarter to get past West York in the consolation game. William Penn gave up just six points in the final frame to climb out of a 47-44 hole.

Jacquez Casiano scored eight of his 23 points in the fourth quarter for William Penn, while Trey Shifflett had nine of his 21 in the quarter.

West York was led by Darian McCauley with 19 points and Kenton Meckley with 15.

Elizabethtown Holiday Tournament

Eastern York 71, Lancaster Mennonite 59: Jared Achterberg and Broguen Nicholas combined for 16 third-quarter points, helping the Golden Knights turn a one-point halftime deficit into a 50-36 lead after three quarters in their victory in the first round of the Elizabethtown Holiday Tournament.

Nicholas led the Knights with a team-high 17 points while Achterberg added 12 off the bench. Seth Bernstein added 15 points as all 10 Eastern players who saw action scored.

Richie Rosas led the Blazers with 17 points. Kyle Kerr added 14 points, all in the fourth quarter when the Blazers drained seven 3-pointers to keep it close.

Eastern plays Elizabethtown in Wednesday championship game.

Elizabethtown 65, Dallastown 45: The Bears sped to a 13-point lead at the half and coasted from there in the first-round victory. The Bears will face Eastern York in today’s championship at 7:30 p.m., and the Wildcats will meet Lancaster Mennonite in the consolation.

Joey Lonardi led the hosts with 24 points, 15 of those coming in the fourth quarter.

The Wildcats got a team-high 13 points from Aaron Ward.

Gettysburg Lions Club tournament

South Western 55, Delone Catholic 41: South Western survived a fourth-quarter scare to pick up its first win of the season.

The Mustangs led by 12 after the third quarter, but consecutive 3-pointers by Delone's Logan Alexander and Alex Maitland cut their lead to six points.

That would be the closest the Squires would come, though, as the Mustangs went on an 11-3 run to close the game.

Job Brown scored 16 points to lead the Mustangs. Tavian Dorsey led the Squires with 11.

In the championship game, Gettysburg beat Chambersburg, 56-45.

York Country Day 77, Meadowbrook Christian 50: The Greyhounds trailed by three points heading into the second quarter, but after a few steals and transition buckets, they went on a 32-7 run in the second quarter to defeat Meadowbrook Christian for the tournament championship.

Jordan Ray led York Country Day (8-0) with 31 points and was named tournament MVP. DeAireus Brown added 16 points and was also named to the all-tournament team.

Shippensburg Hound Invitational

Red Lion 55, Shippensburg 41: Rebounds are important because they creates second-chance opportunities on the offensive side, and they limit the other team's chances on the defensive end. Red Lion took that reasoning to heart on Tuesday night in the Hound Invitational Tournament.

The Lions racked up 32 rebounds while limiting the Hounds to just 18. That was the biggest difference in avictory for Red Lion, which took 48 shots compared to just 38 for Ship.
