Tuesday's baseball roundup: Jersey snafu sets stage for Eastern's win vs. Fairfield

EASTERN YORK 5, FAIRFIELD 4 (9) >> The Golden Knights and Green Knights resumed a suspended game in the sixth inning tied at 2. In the top of the ninth with one runner on base, Eastern's Colby Shimmel hit a hard ball to the first baseman. As he tried to field the ball, it went up in his sleeve and lodged in his jersey. It was called a dead ball, and the runners advanced to second and third. That set the stage for Brandon Knarr's single to center field that plated two runs.

"I've never seen a ball hit like that and go into a player's jersey," said Eastern head coach Blaine Garner.

Fairfield got a run back in the bottom of the ninth, but Eastern squashed any comeback hopes.
