Saturday's baseball roundup: Dallastown wins in the ninth

DALLASTOWN 3, MECHANICSBURG 2 (9) >> Regis Maher delivered the game-winning hit for the Wildcats in the bottom of the ninth, scoring Cody Somerville. Somerville led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Riley Hamberger. Bryant Holtzapple walked to set up Maher's walk-off hit.

Sam Deardorff had five strikeouts in his seven innings of work, with Nick Schuler coming on in the eighth inning to earn the win with one strikeout and one walk. Tye Golden recorded Dallastown's only extra-base hit, ripping a triple.

The win helped Dallastown move past a difficult start to the season where the Wildcats have struggled to close out games. Dallastown led 2-1 before Mechanicsburg tied the game in the top of the fifth.

Wyatt Tyson earned the win with six strikeouts and two walks. Erik Paules and Dan Waldrup each had two hits for Red Lion.

The Bobcats' Brayton Bare and Christian Morales-Berrios each registered two hits. Northeastern's Kody Reeser put in a complete-game performance, allowing three runs on nine hits but just one extra-base hit.

NEW OXFORD INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT>> New Oxford's baseball team split its two games in the invitational tournament it hosted.

In their first game of the day, the Colonials lost to Kutztown, 4-1.

Kutztown recorded eight strikeouts, and it held New Oxford to three hits.

In the consolation game, New Oxford defeated Big Spring, 9-0. Dominic Grimes went 2-for-3 with a double. Alex Smith went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.

In the championship game, Kutztown defeated Chambersburg, 6-5.

In earlier action, Chambersburg had defeated Big Spring, 4-1.
