York-Adams athletes rack up District 3 hardware



In a whirlwind two weeks of District 3 championships, York-Adams athletes and teams snagged 17 championships in basketball, wrestling, swimming and diving.

Now, many of teams and individuals will turn their attention to the state tournaments, which begin Thursday (wrestling), Friday and Saturday (basketball). The state swim meet is next week.

Here's a look back at the district tournament.

District 3 champions 

Girls' basketball: Susquehannock (Class 5A), York Catholic (Class 3A)

Boys' basketball: Northeastern (Class 5A), York Country Day (Class 1A)

Wrestling: Bermudian Springs' Austin Clabaugh (126), Bermudian Springs' Noah Fleshman (195), New Oxford's Zurich Storm (120), Central York's Michael Wolfgram (285)

Girls' swimming: West York's Courtney Harnish (200 free, 100 back), West York's 400 free relay (Maddi Stoner, Claudia Keller, Meghan French, Courtney Harnish), Eastern York's Madison Nalls (500 free)

Boys' swimming: York Suburban (team), Gettysburg's Jared Herr (200 free, 500 free), Dallastown's Jacob Stoner (100 fly)

Diving: West York's Erica Sarver

District 3 tournaments by the numbers

36: Total number of District 3 wrestling medalists. Three of those won regional titles, and a total of 22  advance to the state tournament.

64: Total number of District 3 swimming medalists, including Suburban's team total and Sarver's diving championship. YAIAA swimmers filled 44 qualification slots in the PIAA championships, which begin next week.

24: Number of District 3 basketball tournament qualifiers from York and Adams counties. The total is split evenly with 12 male teams and 12 female teams. In all, 13 teams advanced to the state tournament.
