Tuesday's best: Central York tops Red Lion volleyball


With first place in YAIAA Division I on the line, Central York provided a statement victory in front of its home fans.

The Panthers beat Red Lion 3-1 (25- 18, 19-25, 25-23, 25-23) to move into a tie with the Lions for first place in the division.

Marley Anderson led Central York with 18 kills, while Kamryn Stambaugh provided 13 and Ashley Gallagher contributed 11. Emma Saxton posted 39 assists and also came up with eight digs.

The Panthers' victory should also tighten the gap between Central and the Lions in the District 3 Class 4A power rankings. Red Lion entered the day ranked No. 1, with Central York ranked No. 5.

Hawkettes sweep Bolts: Hanover made senior night memorable for its six seniors, with a sweep against Littlestown in its final home match of the regular season.

Alex Merrel posted 10 kills, McKenzie Cleary delivered 14 digs and Lexi Daley dispensed 20 assists in the victory.

The result moves Hanover and Littlestown into a tie for third place in YAIAA Division III as both teams have 8-4 records in the division.

Warriors top Golden Knights: Gettysburg kept its district playoff hopes alive by beating Eastern York, 3-1.

Sammi Faloon provided 13 kills and nine digs for the Warriors, while Shelby Briggs came through will 11 kills and five digs.

Girls' tennis

Wildcats advance: Dallastown defeated Central Dauphin, 3-2, to advance to the District 3 Class 3A semifinals.

The Wildcats, the No.3 seed, won all three singles matches, as Christie Friedrich, Madi Reed and Morgan Kistler all secured victories in the team's quarterfinal match. They lost both doubles matches but still advance to face No. 2-seeded Hershey on Wednesday at the Hershey Racquet Club.

Hershey eliminated No. 7 New Oxford, 5-0.
