Northern Lebanon wrestlers claim 7 sectional titles

In all, there were 9 sectional champs from the county on Saturday, and 22 wrestlers qualified for districts.

A total of 9 Lebanon County wrestlers won sectional championships on Saturday during qualifying for the District 3 Championships.

Not surprisingly, 7 of them were from Northern Lebanon.

The reigning PIAA 2A state runner-up, Northern Lebanon dominated the 2A Section 2 event Saturday at Central Dauphin East High School.

Senior Luke Funck, the Vikings' 182-pound hammer, led the way with a 9-3 decision over Devin Evans of Susquehanna Township in his title bout, and was joined in the winner's circle by teammates Kyler Anspach (106), Colin Leonard (120), Trevor Leonard (132), Zach Kelly (138), Luis Negreiros (160) and Hunter Wallace (220).

In addition, the Vikings received runner-up efforts from Blaise Bressler (152), Ethan Herb (170), Maxx Emborsky (195), and Kyle Sonnen (285) and a third place effort from Brandon Breidegan at 113 pounds.

The top 3 in each weight class in 2A advance to districts, meaning a whopping 12 Vikings will be in action at the District 3 2A tourney at Giant Center next weekend.

Also claiming sectional titles from Lebanon County on Saturday were Elco's Alex Puglio, who snared the 120-pound crown in the 2A Section 1 tourney at Hamburg, and Palmyra's Leo Higgins, who captured the 182-pound championship at the 3A Section 2 event at Hempfield.

Puglio will be joined at districts by Raider teammates Owen Nell (138), Cam Krow (145) and Quinten Weaver (220), each of whom placed third in their respective weight classes on Saturday.

Annville-Cleona's Hayden Funck, the runner-up at 126 at CD East, and Dave Fiebig, who took third at 120, also secured 2A district tournament berths.

Also in 3A sectional competition on Saturday, Cedar Crest 285-pounder Ross Fisher claimed fourth at the 3A Section 1 tourney at Governor Mifflin, while Palmyra's Matt Carroll and Josh Myers placed fourth at 113 and 126 pounds, respectively, at Hempfield to join Higgins at districts.

The top 4 finishers in the 3A sectionals advanced to districts.
