Northern Lebanon in lead at L-L wrestling


A total of seven Vikings and 11 county wrestlers in all gained semifinal berths during the first day of the league tourney on Friday.

The Northern Lebanon wrestling team is halfway home to a Lancaster-Lebanon League title.

Sending a staggering seven wrestlers into the semifinals, the Vikings grabbed the lead in the team standings after the opening day of the L-L tourney at Garden Spot on Friday.

Northern Lebanon totaled 117.5 points to take the lead after the first day. Manheim Central is in second place with 107 points.

Action resumes at 11 a.m. today, and when it does Vikings Kyler Anspach (106), Dustin Breidegan (113), Trevor Leonard (132), Luis Negreiros (160), Quinn Blatt (170),  unbeaten Luke Funck (182) and Matt Vines (220) will also be in pursuit of individual titles.

They'll be joined in the championship hunt by Cedar Crest's Barry Breidegan, who remained unbeaten at 152 while securing his semifinal spot, Annville-Cleona's Zach Renninger (120) and Josh  Renninger (138), and Elco's Ryan Rolon (285).

In addition to its seven semifinalists, Northern Lebanon also has four wrestlers alive for medals in the consolation bracket. They are: Colin Leonard (120), Zach Kelly (138), Steve Herb (1450, and Blaise Bressler at 152 pounds.

The championship finals are slated for 3 p.m., along with the consolation finals for third through seventh place.
