Local cross country runners have good showing at Hershey


A long cross country season culminated on Saturday at the PIAA cross country championships at Hershey. Qualified runners from around the state participated, including three Lebanon County runners.

In Double-A boys' action, senior Jared Harnish, of Elco, ended his high school career finishing 16th out of 225 runners. Harnish finished with a time of 16:39. He finished just 50 seconds behind the first-place finisher Dominic Hockenbury, of Lake Lehman.

In Triple-A girls' action, Palmyra junior Kelsei Bixler finished 57th out of 226 runners with a time of 19:50, after finishing with a 5:50 time at the one-mile mark. Bixler's time was 1:49 off the mark of the first-place finisher Olivia Sargent, of Pennsbury.

Lastly, Jess Cruise, a Cedar Crest junior, took 62nd place in the boys' Triple-A contest, with a time of 16:50. He was 1:11 behind the pace of Central Bucks East's Jake Brophy, who finished in first.
