Palmyra storms into Mid-Penn final
The Palmyra field hockey team wants a Mid-Penn Conference title very badly.
That was quite apparent on Tuesday night.
The Cougars stormed into Thursday's Mid-Penn championship game with a thorough 8-0 drubbing of Northern in a lopsided semifinal encounter at Mechanicsburg.
Erin Huffman led the way with a hat trick as Keystone Division champ Palmyra improved to 17-2 ahead of the title game encounter with Boiling Springs, a 2-1 winner over Cumberland Valley. The contest is set for 7 p.m. Thursday at Central Dauphin Middle School's Landis Field.
"We are very proud to represent the Keystone Division," Palmyra coach Kristi Costello said. "Tonight was a great team win and we were able to distribute the ball to many players in the circle. We are very excited to play on Thursday night for a championship."
Lexi Smith, Nicole Shank, Carli Herman, Gabby Corricelli, and Shayla Myers also scored for Palmyra, which outshot the Polar Bears 24-0 and enjoyed a commanding 21-1 advantage in penalty corners.
The Cougars will be shooting for their second conference title and first since 2009 on Thursday.
