Elco's Tobias in contention at district golf tournament

Elco's Cody Tobias had a forgettable day at the Lebanon County Golf Tournament on Tuesday, shooting a 93 that left him nowhere near contention for the title and presumably an afterthought for this weekend's District Three Championships.

Think again.

Tobias righted his ship and then some on Friday during the first round of the AAA district tourney at Briarwood East in York, firing a two-over par 74 that left him tied for ninth heading into Saturday's final round of the 36-hole event.

Tobias was one of four Lebanon County competitors in action on Friday, but the only one to make the cut for the final round.

County champ Tim Bomberger carded an 80 to finish tied for 37th, Palmyra freshman Caleb Randall shot 81 and was tied for 42nd, and Cedar Crest's Evan Dissinger was tied for 56th after an 85.

The top 32 scores and ties advanced to Saturday.

Tobias will tee off at 10 a.m. on Saturday in a bid to secure one of the 16 available berths in the PIAA East Regional event at Golden Oaks Golf Club in Fleetwood on Oct. 19.

Gus Minkin of Central York sits atop the AAA boys leaderboard after shooting a two-under 70.
