FIELD HOCKEY: Annville-Cleona salutes troops, blanks Elco, 3-0


Michaela Singer scored 19 seconds into the game and Tori Malloy added a second goal a little over six minutes later to lift the Annville-Cleona field hockey team to a 3-0 victory over Elco at A-C High School on Wednesday.

The contest doubled as a Salute The Troops event and also included a second half goal from Morgan Zimmerman.

Haley Zimmerman stopped three shots in goal to earn the shutout for A-C, which improved to 2-0 in the early going.

Elco, which was outshot 18-3, fell to 0-2.

PENN MANOR 3, CEDAR CREST 2 >> In South Lebanon, the Falcons gave the reigning Class AAA co-state champs a battle before falling in the Section One opener.

Cailie Bernard and Emily Hombach scored for Cedar Crest, and Kelsey Bell stopped nine shots in goal in a losing cause.

Emily Peters and Maddie Gable added assists for Cedar Crest, which dropped to 1-2.

DONEGAL 15, NORTHERN LEBANON 1 >> In Fredericksburg, mighty Donegal completely overwhelmed the host Vikings, piling up nine goals in the first half en route to the lopsided triumph.

Donegal also outshot Northern Lebanon by a staggering 35-3 margin.
