TRACK AND FIELD: Warwick's Lucas grabs state silver

SHIPPENSBURG >> It wasn't the medal Warwick's David Lucas was looking for, but it was still rather shiny.

Lucas capped a superb career on Friday with a runner-up finish in the boys AAA discus at the PIAA Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg University.

Looking for gold heading into his final high school competition, Lucas, the reigning District Three AAA champ, instead settled for silver with a throw of 183-1 that, while still impressive, was well below his personal best.

Jordan Geist from Knoch out of District Seven took the gold with a heave of 186-2.

Lucas was joined on the medal stand by Manheim Central's Tyler Hoag, who placed sixth with a throw of 158-8.

Cocalico's Emily Stauffer also brought a state medal home to Lancaster County on Friday, placing fourth in the girls AAA shot put. Stauffer's best throw was a 42-6.

Manheim Central freshman Heidi Strausbaugh also managed to medal in her first state meet, taking seventh in the girls AAA javelin with a throw of 126-11.
