SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Annville-Cleona handles Lancaster Mennonite, keeps control of section race


The Annville-Cleona softball team maintained control of the Section Four race on Friday, riding a 13-strikeout complete game from Emma Lerchen to a 7-2 victory over Lancaster Mennonite in Lancaster.

The win left A-C 11-3 overall and 9-2 in Section Four, two games up on second-place Pequea Valley.

Lerchen also went 3-for-4 with two RBIs at the plate to pace a 10-hit Little Dutchmen attack.

MANHEIM CENTRAL 6, ELCO 3 >> In Manheim, the Raiders jumped to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first but couldn't hang on for the win.

Central scored four times in the bottom of the fourth to take control, eventually dropping the Raiders to 7-6 overall and 5-6 in Section Three.

Maddie Drescher doubled to account for Elco's lone extra-base hit.

LAMPETER-STRASBURG 13, NORTHERN LEBANON 1 (5 INNINGS) >> In Fredericksburg, NL ran into the powerful Pioneers with predictable results.

L-S scored in each of the five innings, including five times in the top of the fifth, en route to bringing the mercy rule into effect.

The loss left the Vikings 7-7 overall and 6-5 in Section Three.

Also on Friday, Palmyra upended Hershey 12-3 and Garden Spot beat Lebanon 18-2. No details were reported.
