SOFTBALL: Cedar Crest captures A-C tourney title

The inaugural Annville-Cleona "Chill on the Hill" softball tournament was ironically contested amid summer-like temperatures.

But Cedar Crest still managed to cool off host A-C, snaring the tourney title with a 6-1 championship game victory on Saturday at Annville-Cleona High School.

Maddie Gable and Emma Spang led the way for Cedar Crest, which scored five times in the top of the sixth to assume control of the contest. The Falcons earned their title shot with a 7-3 opening-round victory.

Gable tossed a complete game six-hitter and struck out five, while Spang collected three of the Falcons' seven hits to pace the offense.

A-C, which blanked Lebanon 12-0 in five innings in the opener, scored its only run of the championship game in the fourth inning. Christy Snyder doubled to account for the Little Dutchmen's lone extra-base hit.

Zoie Garris picked up the win for A-C in the opener, striking out eight while allowing only three hits.
