SOFTBALL: Hempfield and Penn Manor notch wins in Friday action


Both the Hempfield and Penn Manor softball teams continued their winnings ways on Friday.

The Black Knights (5-2, 5-1) defended their home field against Conestoga Valley by a score of 12-2 in five innings.

Conestoga Valley battled back from an initial 2-0 deficit to tie the game in the third but Hempfield would eventually take off on a hitting frenzy that produced a 10-run showing in the bottom of the third.

Hempfield would collect 11 hits in the game.

The wins keeps Hempfield on pace with Section One foe Warwick (6-1, 4-1), who downed Lebanon by a score of 15-0 on Friday.

The Knights will travel to Wilson West Lawn (2-1) on Saturday for a non-league game before heading to Garden Spot (3-4) on Monday to take on the Spartans.

Meanwhile, the Comets held of Solanco 3-2 despite the Golden Mares scoring two runs in the top of the sixth.

Penn Manor was able to preserve the win despite being out hit, 6-4 and committing two errors to Solanco's zero.

The win keeps the Comets (4-2) in striking distance of Warwick and Hempfield.

Penn Manor will travel to Elizabethtown (4-3) on Monday.
