Elco girls' bid to lock up states falls short

NEFFSVILLE - The Elco girls basketball team is down to its last try in a bid to qualify for the PIAA state playoffs.

Outscored 18-7 in the fourth quarter, the Raiders fell to York Suburban 36-32 in a District Three Class AAA consolation game at Manheim Township on Tuesday night.

Now 16-9, Elco drops into Thursday's AAA seventh-place game vs. Bishop McDevitt. The contest is set for 5 p.m., back at Manheim Township.

The Raiders led at the end of each of the first three quarters, and took a 25-18 lead into the fourth, where things went south.

"We play three freshman and one sophomore. All of this is a bonus for us with a young team, but it would be nice to get them one more win to get the experience," Elco head coach Ashli Shay told GameTimePA.com correspondent George Marinos of the Raiders' hopes of earning a state tourney spot.

Taylor Bossert and Chandelle Keller led a balanced Elco attack with nine points apiece, and Ryelle Shuey added seven points.

Olivia Gettle paced York Suburban (19-6) with 11 points.
