Palmyra moves to 2-0 with 35-7 rout at West Perry

ELLIOTTSBURG - Coming off a statement season-opening win against Camp Hill, the Palmyra football team looked to earn a 2-0 start facing a less superior West Perry team. The Cougars started fast and never looked back, taking care of business against the Mustangs in a 35-7 non-league rout.

In his second game under center, Cougars quarterback Peter Robertson threw for 145 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 71 yards and another touchdown. Carl Reigle added two big touchdown runs as well, finishing just short of the century mark with 96 yards on the ground. Alon Rhette finished with 49 yards receiving, including one TD.

Robertson started the scoring with a 35-yard run with 5:44 left in the first quarter, followed by a 32-yard touchdown pass to Rhette with 0:46 seconds left in a 14-point opening quarter. Reigle scored his first touchdown of the night from 26 yards out with just over two minutes left in the first half, giving the Cougars a 21-0 lead into the locker room.

Reigle added his second rushing touchdown from 45 yards out with 3:38 left in the third quarter. The Cougars capped off their scoring on Robertson's second passing touchdown of the night from 58 yards out just a few minutes later with 11:48 left. Kynon Johnson had the lone West Perry score on a 28-yard touchdown run with 4:23 left.

Palmyra will try to earn a 3-0 start next week, visiting Elco for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
