Palmyra tops Lampeter-Strasburg in 5A consy

It wasn't the game that the Palmyra boys basketball team wanted to be playing in. The preferred contest - a District 3 5A semifinal - was taking place at Giant Center on Monday night.

But the Cougars didn't let that affect their performance in a 5A consolation battle at Lebanon High, jetting to a 25-10 lead after the first quarter en route to a convincing 70-56 victory over Lancaster-Lebanon Section 2 champ Lampeter-Strasburg.

Now 21-4 and having already secured a state playoff berth, Palmyra now turns its attention to Wednesday's 5A fifth place seeding game against Greencastle-Antrim, an 82-78 winner over Manheim Central, at 6:30 p.m. at Lower Dauphin High School.

Bryant Willis led the Cougars on Monday night, pumping in 25 points and 6 3-pointers to lead four Palmyra players in double figures. Isaac Blatt addedc 15 points for the Cougars, and Braden Vernet and Bennett Von Stetten checked in with 10 points apiece.

Ben Sandberg paced L-S (17-10) with a game-high 27 points, and Chase Broderick also hit double figures with 16 points.

Palmyra helped its cause with 12-for-15 foul shooting, while the Pioneers were just 6-of-11 from the charity stripe.
