BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Elco keeps pace in Section Three hunt


Tyler Horst threw a complete-game two-hitter and Elco topped Lancaster Mennonite, 7-1, Wednesday in a convincing home win. The Raiders churned through three Blazer pitchers, scoring five runs in the second inning and two more in the fourth. Elco (8-3, 7-3 Section Three) remains right in the thick of its section hunt, battling Manheim Central, Donegal and Northern Lebanon for the two top spots.

The Raiders will host Manheim Central Friday at 4:15 p.m.

LEBANON 7, COLUMBIA 4>> The Cedars reached their highest win total since 2008, beating the Crimson Tide at home for their fifth win. Lefty Justin Martin earned the win on the hill and struck out six Columbia batters. Lebanon sophomore Cody Kissinger clubbed a double and scored two runs, while co-captain Austyn Yerger went 2-for-3 with a run scored.

PALMYRA 2, BISHOP MCDEVITT 0>> Cougars sophomore Isaac Blatt scattered three hits over a complete-game effort and Palmyra rode two early runs to a home victory. Carl Reigle recorded the day's only extra-base hits, crushing a double and a home run.

CEDAR CREST 10, CONESTOGA VALLEY 0>> The Falcons earned their third win via a home shutout and one-hit the Buckskins. Cedar Crest posted nine runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to pick up the mercy-rule shortened victory.
