Elco stays hot, wins slugfest

The Elco baseball team scored 11 runs in its first three at-bats on Monday.

And needed every one of them.

The Raiders won a wild one on Monday, jumping to an 11-0 lead three innings in and holding on for a 13-11 win over Cocalico in a Section Three slugfest in Denver.

The victory left surprising Elco 4-1 overall and 3-1 in Section Three in the early going and was the result of a 14-hit attack led by Nate Hostetter and Vinny Vitelli.

Hostetter went 4-for-5 with a home run, two RBIs and three runs scored, and Vitelli slammed a three-run homer to highlight a five-run top of the first that sent Elco on its way.

ANNVILLE-CLEONA 11, PEQUEA VALLEY 3 >> In Annville, A-C kept its record unblemished with the help of the long ball, socking three home runs in the rout of the Braves.

Noah Connor, Colton Long and Mitch Long all went deep for the Little Dutchmen (5-0, 4-0 Section Four), who overcame 10 walks issued by their pitching staff.

The big inning for A-C was the sixth, when it scored five times to break the game open.

DONEGAL 3, NORTHERN LEBANON 0 >> In Mount Joy, the Vikings were checked on four hits en route to their second straight defeat.

Jordan Nichols kept NL (3-2, 2-2 Section Three) in the game by scattering five hits, but it wasn't enough to overcome Sam Lazowski's complete game shutout.

PENN MANOR 3, CEDAR CREST 2 >> In Millersville, the Falcons' struggles continued in a gut-wrenching walk-off loss.

Now 0-4, Cedar Crest was locked in a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the seventh until Anthony Knight tripled and scored on an ensuing throwing error.

Cedar Crest was limited to five hits in the setback, including doubles from Nick Gonzalez and Joseph Carpenter.

MANHEIM CENTRAL 14, LEBANON 3 (5 INNINGS) >> In Manheim, the Cedars suffered a mercy rule defeat en route to remaining winless in the early going.

Lebanon (0-5, 0-4 Section Three) had some bright spots, though, in the form of Logan Blouch and Justin Martin, who combined for two doubles and all three Cedar RBIs.

LANCASTER CATHOLIC 12, LEBANON CATHOLIC 0 (5 INNINGS) >> In Lancaster, the Beavers were also victims of the mercy rule, and were also no-hit in the process.
