Lebanon Catholic names new athletic director
1998 alum Joseph Shay will take over for Mike Miller, who is retiring in July after 35 years at the helm.
Lebanon Catholic School will have a new athletic director come July, when 1998 alum Joseph Shay takes over for the retiring Mike Miller.
Miller, who turns 64 this year, is stepping down after more than 35 years as the school's AD and 41 years of service as a teacher, coach and administrator. During his tenure, Lebanon Catholic athletic programs produced three state championships - all in girls basketball- - over 22 district titles, and a handful of athletes who went on to compete at the Division One level in college.
In his place, will be Shay, an ex-Lebanon Catholic football player and West Chester University grad who has an extensive teaching and coaching background at McCaskey and Annville-Cleona. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology from West Chester in 2003, and earned his Master of Science of Education Degree in 2009 and his K-12 Principal Certification in 2014.
”Mr. Shay is absolutely the right person to take LC athletics to the next level. He has what it takes to build on the excellent foundation provided under our retiring athletic director, Mr. Mike Miller," Lebanon Catholic principal Rose Kury said in a news release. "The enthusiasm and drive expressed by Mr. Shay is contagious and will be felt by all who meet him. I see the sports programs at Lebanon Catholic growing with a new invigorative, LC spirit.”
Shay and his wife Colleen are the parents of three children, all of whom attend Lebanon Catholic.
In retirement, Miller plans to spend more time with his wife Karen and their grandchildren.
