Lebanon County HS Highlights: Elco girls soccer perfect

Game of the Day

Elco girls soccer 4, Annville-Cleona 0

With the win, the Raiders have clinched a perfect regular season. Julia Nelson led the way with a two-goal performance. More on her clutch night below. Taylor Bossert got the Raiders on the board early in the eighth minute, while Natalie Swingholm iced the win in the 77th minute.

"It's something that's never been done in our program so that makes it more special," said Elco coach Derek Fulk. "All the hard work and dedication they put in was made worthwhile. It's really exciting for me for them, because I know how hard they've worked. They very much deserve this."

But despite knowing the talent he had coming into the season, Fulk never expected the amount of success his team earned.

"I think we knew what we had coming back. We definitely had talent but had people step up. We gelled well too, our chemistry has been fantastic. You also need some breaks here and there, which we were fortunate to have," he said. "I definitely thought we'd challenge for the section, but never in my wildest dreams did I expect this. It was just one of  those years where the ball bounced our way."

Fulk says however, his team will need to turn the page quickly, as they gear up for what will be a challenging postseason run in a situation Elco has never been in, now in Class 3A.

"At this point, you're not going to face teams that aren't very good. Moving up a class will  be a challenge too playing bigger schools, and we're not used to that from last year," he said.

Player of the Day

Julia Nelson, Elco girls soccer

Nelson's two goals came in a span of three minutes in the second half to help boost the Raiders in the milestone win.

"She's probably one of the best defenders I've had the pleasure of coaching. But when she gets the opportunity offensively, she can score. She's a tremendous player," Fulk said.
