WRESTLING: Thursday, Shippensburg defeats Greencastle


SHIPPENSBURG - Shippensburg won six of the first seven bouts Thursday night and captured a 51-24 Mid Penn Colonial Division wrestling victory over Greencastle-Antrim.

The Greyhounds (1-0, 1-0 MPC)  got pins in early going by Sterling Shetter (152), Collin Dolbin (182), Cole Forrester (195) and Cameron Tinner (220), as well as a decision at 285 by Nick Kubala - 6-4 over Youssef Mohamed - and a forfeit.

Facing a 33-3 deficit, the Blue Devils (0-2, 0-2 MPC)) knocked out four straight wins to make it 33-24. Bryan Eckenrode (106), Bryce Eckenrode (113) and Tyler Trail (120) each scored pins, while Thomas Richmond (126) ground out a 6-2 decison over John Adams.

Bryce Eckenrode's pin came in just 10 seconds.

But Shippensburg then closed out the victory with a pair of forfeits and a pin by Ian Reed at 138.

West Perry 45, James Buchanan 24 >> With just seven competitors, James Buchanan managed to total four individual match wins, including two pins, in a loss to West Perry in a Mid Penn Colonial dual Thursday.

Devon Harbaugh defeated Nevin Shields in a 12-9 decision at 132 pounds, and despite being bumped up a weight class, Kyle Lee won at 152 pounds, pinning Nate Salinetro in 4:33.

At 195, Seth Carbaugh defeated Christian Puchalsky in an 8-1 decision, and Canden Krenzer pinned Benjamin Wertz in 3:00 at 285. 

"We lost two individual matches and still lost the match,"  James Buchanan coach Matt Gordon said, "It's tough with seven wrestlers."

Besides six forfeits, West Perry won just two matches.
