Mercersburg boys place 2nd at MAPL indoor championships


Mercersburg Academy hosted the Mid-Atlantic Prep League indoor track & field championships on Saturday and the boys team put forth an impressive showing, claiming second place in the team race, while the girls placed fourth.

The boys team placed second with a total of 82 points, while the girls team racked up 48.

For the boys, Ro Fernandez won the 55 dash in 6.71, and placed second in the 200 in 23.35, ranking him third all-time in the school's indoor history for the 200. Alden Littlefield won the boys shot put with a heave of 52-03.25, throwing over 11 feet farther than the next competitor. Mikale Williams won the triple jump (41-05.25) and placed second in the long jump, leaping 21-10.25 to set a new Mercersburg indoor record.

On the girls side, Ryan Geitner placed second in the 1600 with a leaning finish in 5:48.65. She also placed fourth in the 3200 (13:05.56). Campbell Drennan placed third in the 800 in 2:32.30, which ranks her second in indoor school history, while Finley Stewart also placed third in the 55 dash (7.47).

Isiuwa Oghagbon took second in the shot put with a heave of 33-6.75 to improve on her own school record.

Wrestling qualifiers

Class 3A Section IV

  • Waynesboro qualified four wrestlers for the District 3 Championships by placing in the top four at the Section IV Tournament at South Western. Dalton Mowen took second at 145, falling to Joe Pecaitis of Gettysburg in the final, and Seth Egolf was the 195 runner-up after a loss to Red Lion's Zach Shaffer in the final. In addition, Laken Rouzer was third at 126 and Matt McCann placed fourth at 120.
