JB's Annabelle McCullough scores 6th-place PIAA medal


Franklin County Class 2A swimmers saw plenty of action Thursday in the PIAA Swimming Championships at Bucknell University, and it added up to one medal.

James Buchanan junior Annabelle McCullough swam exactly to her seed in the 100 butterfly and placed sixth with a time of 57.90 (the top eight receive medals and earn All-State honors). The winner was Kyra Manson of Moravian Academy, who clocked a 56.12.

JB's Nick Garbinski, a junior, came up with the next-highest place, taking 11th in the 50 freestyle. His time was 21.56, which beat his seed time (21.86), compared to the 20.50 that winner Gabe Castano of Allentown Central Catholic hit.

The Rockets had two girls relay teams place in the top 20. The 200 medley relay squad of sophomore Annaliesse Hissong, junior Rachel Kimmel, McCullough and freshman Sarah Kimmel swam a time of 1:51.62 to place 13th, while the 200 free relay team of McCullough, Sarah Kimmel, Rachel Kimmel and Hissong took 18th in 1:42.63.

Also for JB, Rachel Kimmel competed in the 200 IM and swam a time of 2:14.71 to place 24th.

Shippensburg qualified three swimmers for Thursday's events. Junior Sam Nonemaker took 28th in the boys 200 freestyle (1:49.61), freshman Makenna Morris was 29th in the girls 200 IM (2:16.52) and freshman Madison Osanitsch was 30th in the 200 free (1:59.90).
