SWIMMING: Tuesday's roundup, Chambersburg sweeps

CHAMBERSBURG -- The Chambersburg swim teams got their season off to a fine start with a pair of wins over Red Land in a non-league competition at Chambersburg YMCA on Tuesday.

The boys earned a 95-75 victory, while the girls put up a 94-76 triumph.

Trojan coach Chad White said, “I was very pleased with the effort of both teams. We had a great attitude and raced very well.”

For the girls, Erika Rundquist (200 freestyle, 100 backstroke) and Ashlynn Ellis (200 IM, 100 butterfly) were double winners and Abbie Reichelderger took the 400 free.

White said, “Ellis had a great IM for the first meet, just a little off her best time. Kandace Loup had great swims in the 200 and 400 free, which shows her hard work is paying off. Cayris Wright and Ashlyn Browning both had some nice swims.”

The Trojan boys took first place in every event except the 200 free relay. Avery Barley (100 fly, 100 breaststroke), Andrew Leeper (50, 100 free), Julian Chance (200 IM, 100 back) and Jacob Greenwood (200, 400 free) each captured a pair of races.

“The boys was a close meet for the first eight events, but then we pulled away. Our medley relay looked strong. Greenwood swam our fastest ever 400 free (4:20.04), and Jacob Gayman had two awesome races in the 200 IM and backstroke where he worked to get second place and helped us seal the deal.”

Red Lions sweeps Shippensburg >> Red Lion dominated the boys meet, but Shippensburg’s girls nearly pulled out a win in a non-league meet.

The Lions won 104-72 in the boys meet, with the Greyhounds (0-1) picking up three wins -- Quionn Slattery (50 free), Alic Sites (diving) and the 200 freestyle relay.

For the Ship girls (0-1), Rachel Morehouse earned wins in the 50 and 100 free, Teddi Powell won the 100 butterfly, MacKenzie Durf took the diving and the 400 free relay came in first place.
