SWIMMING

Mid Penn swimming championships at CV

The Mid Penn Conference will hold its swimming championships at Cumberland Valley H.S. on Friday and Saturday. The events run Friday from 5 to 7:30 p.m. and go Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.

Chambersburg, Shippensburg and James Buchanan will have swimmers in the meet, which is not divided into Class AAA and AA. The top 32 entries in the league in each event have qualified to compete.

BASKETBALL

Mercersburg hosts MAPL boys and girls

The Mid-Atlantic Prep League boys and girls basketball tournaments will be held Friday through Sunday in Nolde Gymnasium at Mercersburg Academy. Admission is free.

The action begins Friday at 3:15, Saturday at 10 a.m. and Sunday at noon. The Blue Storm girls play Friday at 5 p.m. vs. Peddie and Mercersburg's boys also face Peddie, at 8:30.

The girls seeds are: 1.Blair, 2.Hill, 3.Peddie, 4.Lawrenceville, 5.Hun, 6.Mercersburg. The boys seeds are: 1.Blair, 2.Hill, 3.Peddie, 4.Hun, 5.Lawrenceville, 6.Mercersburg.

Between the six schools, there may be as many as 20 or so Division I prospects playing in the tournament.

Mid Penn tournament pairings set

The Mid Penn Conference basketball tournament pairings were finalized this week, with no tiebreakers needed to determine division champions. The semifinals will be played Tuesday, Feb. 14 and the championship games on Thursday, Feb. 16.

In the girls semifinals, Colonial Division champion Greencastle-Antrim (18-4) will meet Keystone's Bishop McDevitt (18-4) at Big Spring at 6 p.m., and Commonwealth champ Cumberland Valley (18-4) takes on Capital winner Camp Hill (18-4) at Central Dauphin at 6.

The boys semifinal matchups include Greencastle (15-7) of the Colonial against Mechanicsburg ((18-4) of the Keystone at Big Spring at 7:30, and the Commonwealth's State College (16-3) against Capital champion Trinity (19-2) at CD at 7:30.

The championships are at Milton Hershey, with the girls at 6 and the boys at 7:30.
