Last week, Fannett-Metal's Mikell McGee walked into the Everett gym needing 17 points to break the boys all-time scoring record.

For McGee, who averaged more than 24 points per game last year, and started the year averaging 34 points through three games - 17 points should have been a piece of cake.

But the Warriors held him two points shy of breaking the milestone.

On Wednesday, McGee held nothing back in a 61-22 win over Belleville Mennonite in which he not only broke the boys all-time scoring record, he also single handedly outscored the Thunder, putting up game-high 26 points.

McGee was the only Tiger to score more than seven points, but eight other players contributed to the win. Austin Raymer and Darston Warren each had seven, followed by Lucas Wingert who added six points.

McGee now has 1,468 points in his career, and also holds the title as the Fannett-Metal soccer all-time leading scorer.

Quotable

Waynesboro boys basketball coach Tom Hoffman after narrow 63-57 loss to Hershey: "There's never such a thing as a good loss, but I can live with this one ... I'm sure we will find things on film that we wish we could have done differently but overall it was a really good game where we came up a little short."

  • Southern Fulton claimed a 41-23 win over Clear Spring in the first round of the Tri-State shootout thanks to an all-around performance from Dylan Gordon, who led the team with 11 points, pulled down nine rebounds, and topped it all off with five steals and three assists.
