F-F Highlights: Chambersburg girls eke out 35-33 win

A strong third quarter paved the way for Chambersburg to pick up a 35-33 non-league girls basketball victory over South Western on Thursday night, snapping a three-game losing streak.

The Trojans trailed 21-17 at halftime, but outscored the Mustangs 11-2 in the third period. Ashley Adams had eight of her 10 points in that quarter.

"We played a really good zone and they just couldn't make their shots," Chambersburg coach Barry Purvis said. "They have a really good player in (Taylor) Geiman who averages about 20 points, but we held her to just seven. Cam Greenlee did a good job on her when she had her."

Gabby Lecuona added 10 points for Chambersburg (2-4), including a big 3-pointer with about two minutes left to give the Trojans an eight-point lead. Taylor Vrabel also chipped in eight points.

Purvis said, "They hit a couple of threes then and we missed a couple 1-and-1's down the stretch, but the girls hung on. We have to learn how to win. We had a chance to get it down and we did and the girls were excited about it."

Score you don't often see

James Buchanan is going to have some lopsided scores this year in wrestling. Not much the Rockets can do about that because they have only four wrestlers in their lineup.

But Thursday's score against Shippensburg was still an eye-opener: Shippensburg 68, James Buchanan -1. Yes, that's minus-1.

Of the four bouts actually wrestled, the Greyhounds won two by major decision and two by regular decision. But at 126 pounds, JB was docked a team point for unsportsmanlike behavior, which put its score in the negative column.
