F-F H.S. Highlights: Forbes Road falls in districts
Forbes Road and Belleville Mennonite had already played each other three times in field hockey this fall, and the Cardinals were 2-1 in those games.
But when the teams met for a fourth time Thursday at State College, for the District 6 Class 1A championship, the Trojans came away with a 3-2 victory to end the season for Forbes Road.
The Cardinals, who finished 11-7, led 2-1 at the half, but Belleville got goals by Leah Eckard and Olivia Bell in the second half to win it.
"They even lost their leading scorer (Leah Peachey) to a cut on her lip at the end of the first half," FR coach Carol Cline said. "We had chances in the second half and we out-cornered them (10-5), but we couldn't connect again."
The Trojans got a goal by Eckard just 4:24 into the game, but Shelby Harnish and Kristina Parsons found the cage for Forbes Road, with assists going to Hailey Dodson and Madeline Miller.
Cline said, "We drew the first corner of the game, but it backfired - they got possession and beat us down the field and scored."
Zoe Cutchall made six saves for the Cardinals in goal.
"Kristina kept working in the midfield and Shelby played well, but she re-injured her foot with about five minutes left," Cline said. "And Zoe did an awesome job. The kids really worked hard all season long."
McConnellsburg 3, Fannett-Metal 0: The Spartans wrapped up a perfect league record, winning the Sideling Hill League (12-0) and the Inter-County Conference (10-0) by beating Fannett-Metal.
